elephant migration routes aerial zoom

Posted by chance in + knowledge

this is a series of images from bbc natural world: elephants without borders

the migration paths are a hundred generations old, forming a network across the kalahari, leading to places where there is water.

elephant highways, incredible.

here is the gps data of an elephant in botswana:

the elephants are collared with a gps unit that can transmit data through radio frequency up to 20 miles. after the battery dies in the unit, the collar is removed.

strapping electronics onto animals and using them to collect data is interesting to me.
